Tavon and Chakia Nash met in 2011 through a mutual friend. Luckily for Tavon that his god sister Erica turned out to be the best friend of his future wife. When they first started dating Chakia was the mother of then 1 year old Devan and Tavon was the father of 6 year old Tayvion. After 5 months of getting to know each other Chakia felt comfortable enough to introduce Tavon to her son. “It was comforting to see that he always would inquire about my son and his well being” says Chakia. Really, how could she not fall for someone that had decided to make her biggest priority, a priority of his own, lol. A short time later Tavon introduced his son to Chakia and the four of them began doing family activities together. The two of them never established boundaries on the children as far as how to address this new special person in their life. Being older Tayvion has always respectfully referred to his dad’s leading lady as Ms Chakia. On the contrary Tavon has been the father figure in Devan’s life since the age of 1 so he is daddy, a title that he wears proudly. Chakia became closer to Tayvion simply by being his friend and treating him like one of her own. From there the relationship between the two of them has taken off. Tavon and Chakia never stated they would discipline separately but she chooses not to discipline Tayvion beyond verbal communication.
These two love birds welcomed a child together a few years into their relationship, a little heartbreaker by the name of Taylen. They would also like to bring 1 or 2 more Nashs into the world in the future. The 3 boys have never used the term step brother. With three kids at home, these two newlyweds as of 9/12/15, keep each other as priority number 1 by having date night once a week, sending loving texts or surprise gifts. They also plan a getaway just the two of them twice a year.
I want to thank the Nash family for being the Melting Pot’s first Dish of the Month. You guys are welcome to ask questions or leave comments for them below. You can also return to the main page via the back arrow at the top of your screen.
